Digital Memory Lab: Historical Memory as Peace Infrastructure

Project Summary

The Digital Memory Lab is a public, digital and pedagogical solution led by Colombia’s National Centre for Historical Memory through the virtual dimension of the Museum of Memory of Colombia. It protects, preserves, communicates and democratizes access to verified historical information on armed conflict, human rights violations and victims’ memories. By connecting human rights archives, the Memory and Conflict Observatory, museum-based narratives, digital literacy and territorial memory initiatives, the project turns historical memory into an accessible peace infrastructure. It seeks to counter denial, distortion and disinformation, reduce access barriers for victims, communities, youth and educators, and strengthen dignity, democratic resilience and non-repetition in conflict-affected contexts.

Presentation of the Organization

Colombia’s National Centre for Historical Memory is a national public institution that receives, recovers, preserves, compiles and analyses documentary materials, oral testimonies and other records on violations linked to the internal armed conflict. Working collaboratively with victims, it advances truth, symbolic reparation, cultural transformation and peace, while leading the Museum of Memory, the Human Rights Archive and territorial, pedagogical and digital memory initiatives.
