Digital Citizenship and Internet Safety (Wa3i)

Project Summary

The Project, led by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in partnership with UNICEF Egypt, the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM), the ITU’s Child Online Protection Committee and local partners, empowers children and teens to safely navigate the digital world by creating a child-friendly digital ecosystem. Implemented nationwide, it combines awareness, trainings, interactive workshops, peers learning and content localization via the Wa3i digital platform to build critical digital and cybersecurity skills of parents and other community actors. To date, the initiative has reached 7,000 people, including parents, librarians and educators, with two national guideline manuals developed. This eventually improves online safety knowledge and digital behavior and fosters resilience to misinformation and digital risks, as well as strengthens social cohesion and trust in digital space.

Presentation of the Organization

The MCIT has adopted numerous digital strategies, including the Digital Egypt Strategy to transform Egypt into a safe, inclusive digital society through digital literacy. Aligning with the National Cybersecurity and AI Strategies, the MCIT’s Central Department for Digital Community Development, partnered with UNDP Egypt under the framework of the Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development in Egypt, implements this initiative to raises awareness of cyber risks and mitigation measures.
