The Paris Peace Forum unveils the 5th edition program and speakers

Paris, 7 November, 2022

This fifth edition will take place on 11 and 12 November 2022 at the Palais Brongniart. The program highlights will focus on the following objectives, aimed at both improving global dialogue and addressing global challenges

1  Don’t let the war win

"If we can’t make peace in the immediate future, we must avoid letting the war gain ground by limiting its direct and indirect consequences, such as food insecurity, energy insecurity, the rising debt of developing countries, and the refugee disaster - whether from Tigray, Syria or Ukraine," Justin Vaïsse.

2  Reduce global gaps

"The accumulation of crises has deepened the North-South divide: vaccine nationalism, disputes over responsibility for global warming, the war in Ukraine... Added to this is the growing East-West polarization: the common narrative of our international system is becoming increasingly thin. In order to face global crises together, it is urgent to better align the points of view and to show that solidarity can prevail. Faced with a fractured world, even in the digital sphere, the Paris Peace Forum is advancing pragmatic cooperation," Justin Vaïsse.

4  Reform or strengthen our international institutions; make them more inclusive

"We can see that the current international institutions are not enough: the UN is essential but too often paralyzed by competition between great powers that prevents it from acting. The countries of the South are contesting a notably financial order that is not adapted to today’s challenges: climate catastrophes, galloping inflation, trade closures in certain countries, etc. We must rethink our international system, and this is also the mission of the Forum,” Pascal Lamy.

5  Highlighting Latin America

Many personalities from around the world: Alongside Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, and several of his ministers including Catherine Colonna, the Forum will welcome Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, Alberto Angel Fernandez, President of Argentina, Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia, Klaus Iohannis, President of Romania, Salome Zourabichvili, President of Georgia, Chen Zhu, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Republic of China and former Minister of Health of the PRC, Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, as well as an additional 50 heads of state and government and ministers.
