Unbroken: Integrated Recovery Ecosystem

First Lviv Territorial Medical Union
Europe
2026

Project Summary

Unbroken is a vertically integrated medical, rehabilitation, social, and educational ecosystem built in response to Russia's full-scale war in Ukraine. In a landscape where care is often fragmented, Unbroken provides a complete continuum – from emergency surgery and prosthetics to mental health, rehabilitation, and reintegration – for veterans, civilians, displaced families, adults and children alike. Operating through Ukraine's largest hospital network (over 500,000 patients annually), Unbroken has supported over 25,000 people and delivered more than 1,085 prostheses – the only facility in Ukraine where prosthetics is fully integrated into the hospital cycle. Unbroken University trains the specialists who sustain this system. Its vision: a European centre of excellence in post-conflict care, built to be replicated.

Presentation of the Organization

First Lviv Territorial Medical Union is Ukraine's largest municipal hospital network: four hospitals and two rehabilitation centers, 3,000 beds, 4,500 staff, over 500,000 patients yearly – adults and children, civilians and veterans, in peacetime and in war. It covers the full spectrum of care, from emergency and surgery to highly specialized treatment, leading nationally in organ transplantation, stroke thrombolysis, robotic surgery, and burn care. This is the foundation on which Unbroken is built.
