Project Summary

Khmelnytskyi’s initiative transforms waste management into a youth-driven urban climate adaptation solution aligned with European circular economy principles. The project combines recycling, waste reduction, composting, reuse practices, environmental education, and community engagement to strengthen sustainable urban development. A key component is the interactive Goofy Centre — Ukraine’s only waste management education space for children and youth — which empowers young people through hands-on learning, workshops, and climate awareness activities. The initiative also includes the Ecobus mobile hazardous waste collection service, municipal Waste Management Centres, and the “Library of Things” initiative promoting reuse culture and sustainable consumption. Together, these initiatives have significantly increased environmental awareness and waste sorting among residents.

Presentation of the Organization

The Khmelnytskyi City Development Agency is a municipal non-profit organization established by the Khmelnytskyi City Council to support the city’s strategic, economic, and sustainable development. The agency works on creating and implementing development projects aimed at improving the quality of life in the community and strengthening the city’s international cooperation.
