Scaling Entrepreneur-Led Livestock Health Systems for Smallholder Resilience in Nigeria

AMBUVETS KONSULT NIGERIA LIMITED
Africa
2026

Project Summary

Ambuvets Konsult has built a scalable, entrepreneur-led model that transforms Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs) and Veterinary Paraprofessionals (VPPs) into viable rural enterprises delivering preventive livestock healthcare across Nigeria, one of Africa’s largest livestock economies.
The model decentralizes vaccine access through solar-powered agrovet cold-chain hubs, links them to trained frontline health workers operating on a fee-based model, and drives a shift from reactive antibiotic use to preventive care, directly addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Beyond delivery, Ambuvets plays a system-shaping role: its annual Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Conference has convened over 1,000 participants from 18 countries to align policy, investment, and action. The initiative has reached over 150,000 smallholder farmers, vaccinated more than 1M animals, and supported more than 250 service providers.
