Lutte contre la pollution plastique des fleuves et rivières, des mers et des océans

Project Summary

Plastic Vortex, in partnership with Inddigo, a sustainable development engineering firm, has installed the patented Vortex 150 system in Toulouse. This automated floating barrier is designed to capture up to 80% of the floating waste carried by the Garonne River downstream from the city’s urban area.

A first in France and worldwide, the project was made possible thanks to the commitment of Toulouse Métropole and the financial support of BPI, the Adour-Garonne Water Agency, and the Occitanie Region.

The organisation expects to collect more than 8 tonnes of waste per year, equivalent to 425,000 plastic bottles. Its goal is to install 31 barriers at carefully selected strategic sites across France. This would make it possible to capture more than 70% of the floating waste flowing into our seas and oceans – over 175 tonnes of waste each year, equivalent to 9 million plastic bottles.
