Safe Pathways to Work: Protecting Latin Americans from Deceptive Job Recruitment

Project Summary

Across Latin America, trafficking networks recruit victims through fraudulent job offers that vulnerable workers cannot tell apart from legitimate ones. Ramona is a free civil society artificial intelligence that intercepts these deceptive postings in real time, delivered directly through WhatsApp and Telegram where job seekers already search. Built on 200 interviews with survivors of trafficking and labor exploitation, it has analyzed over 127,000 job offers with 98% detection accuracy and protected more than 800 lives across Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina and Chile. Beyond detection, Ramona audits hiring algorithms for bias, contributing to a 38% rise in women reaching leadership and a 35% rise in Indigenous participation in formal employment. Funded by CAF and international innovation prizes, it aims to set a transnational standard for labor market information integrity.

Presentation of the Organization

Ramona Aliada Laboral is a Latin American civil society organization using ethical artificial intelligence to prevent human trafficking and labor exploitation and to reduce bias in hiring. It builds and operates the project directly, offering all services free of charge. Its work has been recognized by UNIDO with a UN sustainability award and by the Geneva Centre for Human Rights, and its founder sits on the UNESCO Women for Ethical AI platform.
