The project that is presented involves establishing a permanent presence on the surface of the moon, open to all Nations, able to accommodate multiple users for multiple uses, also known as the “Moon Village”: a Multi-Partners Open Concept. The Moon Village is envisioned to grow incrementally, through the synergies between robotic and automatic systems and human operators. Realising the vision of a global Moon Village requires technical and scientific progress as well as tackling governance issues in order to allow a participation as wide as possible. The Moon Village would eventually support different activities of scientific nature (science from the moon, on the moon, of the moon), a large spectrum of research including applied one, space resources exploitation and possibly manufacturing in space, tourism. It will provide an “out of this world” test-bed and driver to further circular economy and new multilateral governance solutions. Its potential to inspire people throughout the world and across generations will boost capacity building and will potentially mobilise civil societies to embrace peaceful cooperation towards a visionary yet reachable goal.
