Resilient Roots: Youth-Led Climate Adaptation to Reduce Forced Displacement

Project Summary

Resilient Roots is a youth-led urban climate adaptation initiative addressing forced displacement in climate-vulnerable communities in Guatemala. Fundación Oxlajuj N’oj and Todos Suman strengthen community resilience through the rehabilitation of climate-resilient local infrastructure and psychosocial support for people affected by climate-related emergencies. Complementing this local action, mobile information desks in Quiché and Jutiapa provide women and young people facing climate mobility pressures with rights-based guidance on safe migration and access to support services. The project seeks to reduce unsafe displacement, strengthen youth leadership in adaptation, and generate a replicable model for vulnerable municipalities in Guatemala and Central America. Key partners include Todos Suman, the Youth Empowerment Fund and CAIMUS.

Presentation of the Organization

Fundación Oxlajuj N’oj is a youth-led Guatemalan organization empowering youth and women, especially in rural and Indigenous communities. Since 2022, our Puentes de Esperanza project has supported safe migration and climate related displacement through mobile information desks reaching over 3,000 people in the last two years, national and regional research, psychosocial workshops for migrant families, communication campaigns, a youth migration documentary, donations and guidance in shelters.
