Fishing for Litter for Ocean Resilience

Project Summary

Ogyre fights marine plastic pollution through a multi-actor model connecting local fishing communities, certified waste management partners and companies willing to fund measurable environmental action. In highly polluted coastal areas, local fishers are financially supported to collect marine litter during or alongside their fishing activities. The waste is then sorted and directed toward the best available end-of-life solution, while activities are tracked through Ogyre’s blockchain-enabled platform to ensure transparency and accountability. Operating across Italy, Brazil, Indonesia and Senegal, Ogyre has engaged 130+ fishers and recovered over 1.3 million kg of marine waste. Its long-term goal is to scale a fair, traceable and locally grounded model that strengthens ocean resilience and supports coastal livelihoods.

It develops and manages marine litter collection projects by working with local fishing communities, waste management partners and companies. Through its traceability platform, Ogyre turns environmental action into measurable and certified impact, supporting the project’s operations, monitoring and scaling across multiple countries.
