EmpatIA 2: Data for AI Governance

Iniciativa Latinoamericana por los Datos Abiertos, ILDA
International
2025

Project Summary

As part of the lessons learned from EmpatIA, where we evidenced the lack of progress in AI regulation in Latin America and the potential of collaborative experiences for responsible AI initiatives, ILDA has developed a pilot advocacy model for organizations in Latin America to participate in global decision-making processes related to AI regulation.
Through regional articulation, coalition building and research for action, we are building a common agenda and action plan to promote ethical AI principles (transparency, accountability, fairness, non-discrimination, diversity). This seeks to ensure that civil society voices are aligned and impact public debates to influence regional policy formulation and impact AI governance models from a human-rights approach that represents the context and priorities of the region.

Presentation of the Organization

The Latin American Initiative for Open Data (ILDA) is a regional organization that views data as ethical, political, and human. Data goes beyond transparency and accountability; it is essential for citizens' informed participation and to exercise their rights. ILDA acts as a convener and enabler, utilizing its expertise in research for action and advocacy to support effective, multi-actor, and evidence-based decision-making in data and AI governance.
