The project, codenamed AI HIVE (AI for Health Information, Virtual testing & Education), also known as “Self Care from Anywhere”, aims to build and test a multimodal AI toolkit. This toolkit will power a user-facing application, enabling people - particularly young women & girls - to easily access a trusted lifestyle AI companion that supports them on their health journey. Users can engage in discussions about health topics, and receive support for self testing, including tests and instructions. Users will also be able to obtain advice on next steps in their health journey and, when comfortable, connect with human clinical support. The initial health use case focuses on HIV vulnerability self-awareness, testing, and linkage to prevention, care, and treatment support. Phase 1 started in South Africa, with plans to expand into Phase 2 in other African geographies and vulnerable populations.
