Data privacy laws in asia

Asian business law institute (ABLI)

Launched in 2017, ABLI’s Data Privacy Project aims to contribute to the legal certainty and convergence of rules applicable to personal data protection in Asia, with an initial core focus on the regulations of cross-border data flows. In a context where personal data has never been so useful to society, the legal landscape in data privacy in Asia is uncertain, contrasted and constantly shifting. Yet no structure of regional co-operation exists that can effectively remove the resulting hurdles for regulatory cooperation, gaps in privacy protections that are prejudicial to individuals, and the unnecessary compliance costs and restrictions to innovation borne by cross-border businesses. Since 2017 ABLI offers an apolitical, non-profit, trusted platform of regional cooperation that can help build the necessary solutions and bridge these gaps in this complex and sensitive area of the law.
