As part of the AU-EU Youth Cooperation Hub, under the Environment Preservation and Climate Change Cluster, the Jeunesse Sahélienne pour l’Action Climatique (JESAC) is a youth empowerment for climate justice project in Niger and Burkina Faso. In the context of the Great Green Wall Initiative, this innovative agroforestry project was developed involving local youth in regreening the Sahel. The primary objective of the project is to strengthen efforts towards better climate governance and land degradation neutralization in Burkina Faso and Niger through the promotion of agroforestry, socio-economic opportunities, innovative initiatives and climate mobilization driven by young citizens.
The AU-EU Youth Cooperation Hub, with support from Oxfam Intermón, is a collaborative initiative involving the African Union and the European Union. The JESAC program is carried out through a partnership between Oxfam, Lobelia Earth, Caelum Labs, and local communities in Niger and Burkina Faso.
Over 1400 young people and women in 49 villages have been empowered and engaged in restoring 200 hectares of drylands’ sites in Burkina Faso and Niger through assisted natural regeneration methods.
