This is a community-driven initiative restoring degraded biodiversity corridors in Brazil’s Cerrado to enhance ecosystem resilience and climate adaptation.
Rural women lead native plant nurseries and restoration efforts that increase carbon capture, biodiversity, and income. In parallel, we monitor jaguar movements using GPS collars, camera traps, and AI to guide science-based restoration. Combining local knowledge and technology, the project addresses climate vulnerability while empowering women and protecting wildlife.
Since 2023, it has restored 5 hectares, trained 20+ women, and engaged five communities. It offers a scalable model for inclusive, nature-based climate solutions.
The Pró-Onça Institute is a Brazilian NGO led by women and focused on biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and community empowerment. We work to protect jaguars and their habitats through science, restoration, and local leadership. The submitted project is one of our core initiatives, rooted in our mission to promote inclusive, territory-based conservation in the Cerrado.
