Following the 2016 US elections, Facebook committed to taking steps to increase the protection of elections from abuse and exploitation on its platform. As we're working towards this goal, the past few months have been the occasion to develop innovative tools, using cutting-edge technology relying on machine learning, but also crafting new partnerships with expert platforms and academics. This has enabled us to make tremendous progress in detecting coordinated efforts to mislead and manipulate the public. We are now able to remove most fake accounts upon creation, are combating the spread of misinformation, notably via third-party fact-checking partners, rendering advertising more transparent, are supporting an election research commission and are combating foreign interference by identifying coordinated inauthentic behavior. All these initiatives are constantly evolving and have helped reducing the distribution of misinformation. We would like to present a general overview of these constantly evolving efforts and initiatives undertaken by the company to protect election security and civic engagement at PPF, as we believe our technology has enabled us to develop solutions that can benefit society as a whole, by helping people have a voice in the democratic process while at the same time combating misinformation and foreign interference.
