The Coral Reefs of the High Seas Coalition is a global alliance of multidisciplinary partners that aims to generate the science, political support, and strategic communication needed to protect coral reefs in marine areas beyond national jurisdiction, commonly known as the high seas. This is done by convening a coalition of leading scientists, explorers, policy advocates, and communicators who share our ocean conservation goals. Coral reefs are widely regarded as one of the top conservation priorities globally, yet their presence on the high seas was only recently documented. Too many policymakers believe that the high seas are largely devoid of life or lack important ecosystems. Our approach is to dispel this myth and inspire leaders to protect the high seas by documenting coral reefs in remote areas beyond national jurisdiction.
