ALIPH

Established in March 2017 at the initiative of France and the United Arab Emirates, the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas is an innovative response to one of the world's most burning issues: the barbaric destruction of some of the most significant world heritage sites. ALIPH promotes the values of peace, human rights, and sustainable development. ALIPH is a non-profit foundation based in Geneva that enjoys the same immunities and privileges as an intergovernmental organization. It is funded by several States (China, France, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland), international institutions and private donors. The Foundation Board is chaired by Dr. Thomas S. Kaplan, American entrepreneur and philanthropist, and its Scientific Committee by Mr. Jean-Luc Martinez, President-Directeur of the Louvre Museum. The purpose of ALIPH is to raise and manage financial resources in order to quickly support small or major concrete projects of prevention, protection and restoration of cultural heritage in conflict areas. The Foundation recently selected five projects, which deal with the rehabilitation of museums and monuments in Iraq and Mali, a training program, and the outreach activities related to an exhibition on endangered cultural heritage.
