Africa Tech Workers Rising, Kenya is a project to organize and empower front line content moderators and data enrichment workers in the AI data supply chain to improve conditions of pay, workload, health and safety, whistleblower protections, voice and respect.
In this "hub" for AI data supply chain work in Africa, we are identifying, recruiting, and developing worker leaders to build unions, advocate, and organize to hold the AI industry and their suppliers accountable for decent working conditions for the workers behind AI.
While the project is focused on Nairobi, these worker leaders are also building digital engagement and a network of content moderators and data enrichment workers around the continent, building toward a push for binding global standards for the AI giants and their data supply chain.
UNI Global Union brings together workers from over 150 different countries in the service economy to win better jobs and better lives. UNI helps workers build power by growing unions through organizing; protecting and expanding collective bargaining; and holding corporations and governments accountable to workers.
UNI plays a leading role in the global labor movement on the impact of AI on the world of work as well as empowering the workers behind the development of this technology.
