Monday 11 November 2024
Over the past two years, in response to public and government concerns regarding the safety and transparency of cutting-edge AI innovations (“frontier models”), major companies in the sector have agreed to a series of “voluntary commitments.” These commitments stem from multilateral negotiations (the Hiroshima Protocol at the G7, the Bletchley Park and Seoul Declarations) or from their dialogue with key regulators (voluntary commitments to the White House in June 2023, the EU AI Pact in September 2024, a precursor to the European AI Act coming into force in 2026). These standards now form one of the foundations of global AI governance, which the Paris summit aims to consolidate. They also contribute to the work of AI safety authorities (“AI safety institutes”), with the United States hosting the first international meeting in San Francisco on November 20-21.
This roundtable organized in cooperation with the AI Action Summit will gather several signatory companies and will be an opportunity to publicly assess these various initiatives, while identifying ways to strengthen their convergence, practical implementation, and possible updates to reflect the latest technological developments.
