According to the United Nations Population Fund, the world is home to 1.8 billion young people, that is, the largest generation of youth in history (UNFPA, 2019). Faced with today’s global challenges, their massive mobilization whether it be through education, technology, entrepreneurship or activism demonstrates the power they hold in raising awareness in their communities, promoting more sustainable lifestyle changes and solutions for the future and advocating for the rights of vulnerable groups. The recent creation of a United Nations Youth Office represents a chance to pilot a new model of youth leadership in the UN, allowing the participation of young people at the highest level. This session featuring initiatives from all over the world will discuss how to boost youth-led and youth-inclusive solutions on the ground and how to place meaningful youth engagement and empowerment at the heart of decision-making processes.
