From Paris to Seville – progress and priorities for reforming the international financial system

Inequalities and SDGs

About one year ago, in June 2023, world leaders gathered in Paris for the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact, where they launched the Paris Pact for People and the Planet (4P), a new ground-breaking alliance for renewing the international financial architecture. Since then, the number of countries sharing the political priorities of the 4P has continued to grow. Today, 67 countries from all continents and all income levels are part of the 4P Community, and they work together in a spirit of inclusiveness and equality through operational coalitions and the 4P Secretariat hosted at the OECD. The Fourth International Conference on Financing for Sustainable Development (FfD-4) to be hosted in Seville in 2025 can provide a pivotal opportunity to accelerate scale and speed of efforts to reform the international financial system. This event will offer a space to discuss with leaders about their priorities for Seville and how the 4P can facilitate the achievement of ambitious outcomes in critical areas such as public finance mobilization, private finance, debt solutions, and international taxation. This panel will take stock of progress on reforming the international financial system since the launch of the Paris Pact for People and the Planet and discuss key outcomes that could be achieved at the Thirds International Conference on Financing for Sustainable Development.
