Freedom of media in conflict zones : Intergenerational Reflections on Access and Safety in Conflict Zones

Peace, Geopolitics and Multilateralism

(Session co-organized with the European Commission’s Service for Foreign Policy Instruments). This discussion will address the access for media in conflict zones, the targeting of journalists, media bans, and the influence of media on shaping narratives and international perception.

In a world where journalists are increasingly targeted and restricted, how do war correspondents maintain their integrity and deliver accurate reporting from the front lines? Join us for a timely and thought-provoking discussion on the challenges of reporting in conflict zones, from navigating hostile terrains and limited access, to dealing with propaganda, misinformation, and the blurring of lines between journalism and combat. Our panel of seasoned journalists will share their personal experiences and insights on the complexities of modern warfare, the erosion of legal protections, and the difficult choices they face in pursuit of the truth.
