Climate change and conflict: Preparedness for growing risks

Environment and Climate

(Session co-organized with the European External Action Service.) The climate crisis is generating a growing risk to global peace and security. Global temperature records and extreme weather events are increasing the risk for instability and amplifying situations of conflict. Addressing the nexus between climate change and conflict is a priority for the EU and many international, regional and national actors.

Focus on preparedness for the peace and security risks stemming from climate change, this panel aims to address:

  • What do we know about the impact of climate change on conflict – and on conflict resolution?
  • How international partnerships can contribute to preparedness and resilience?
  • Where are the current gaps to ensure preparedness and resilience in countries and communities at the fore of the climate and conflict nexus?
