Description

Citizens need to be informed, organize and express their opinions to engage meaningfully with their governments in the design of policies and services that meet their needs. However, civic freedoms are under under serious threat in 111 countries, according to Civicus. The OECD launches an Observatory of Civic Space to support countries to promote and protect civic space. It will collect data on the most effective legal, policies and implementation frameworks, act as a knowledge-sharing platform among practitioners, and develop international standards and encourage governments to align their policies to them.
This launching event will feature key actors in this field to discuss the state of civic space in the world and how to enhance it.
