Sudan: National Vision for Women's Rights

Project presentation
Women have been central to Sudan’s vast social movements since 2018, yet Sudan’s women leaders continue to be underrepresented in the ongoing national peace and political processes. This has led to women’s rights and priorities not being considered in these processes, and the failure to address the development agenda as it impacts women. This is in part due to the marginalization of women under the Bashir regime and resulting lack of established national institutions and women’s networks representative of the vast diversity of Sudan, which could advocate for these outcomes. This initiative builds on three rounds of local level consultations of Sudanese women leaders and CSOs, aiming to consolidate a national network of women’s organizations, leaders and prioritized consensus political and action agendas as the means to influence the national peace and political process in Sudan.
Organization presentation
Founded in 2005, Karama’s mission is to end violence against women and girls in Africa and the Arab region, and to ensure women participate fully in the decisions that affect them. We work in 13 countries across the Middle East and Africa, supporting activists and women’s organizations to achieve their goals. Karama’s priorities are set by our partners and focus on a bottom-up approach led by the grassroots.Impact
So far consultation exercises in 7 states have seen participants agree on the patterns and themes of women’s oppression, and propose concrete areas of focus to overcome the barriers they face.Follow the project leader on social media:
