Better governing the global commons: climate, biodiversity, oceans, outer space

Strengthen SRM governance through the UNGA

  • Scale-up project
Current climate projections suggest that despite increasing efforts, global warming continues to pose significant risks to natural and human systems. The project aims to strengthen multilateral governance for new techniques to help reduce climate risk by artificially cooling the planet using solar radiation modification (SRM). While SRM may help, it also faces large uncertainties, and poses significant potential risks. As no comprehensive international governance framework exists for SRM, the project aims to catalyze initial consideration by the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
