Project and organization presentation
The project consists of creating a web tool to alert and provide information on proposed laws or policies likely to impact civic space in Latin America. This would lend a crucial, rich digital presence to our current newsletter on the same theme, circulated fortnightly via email, thus broadening the product's offer and beneficiaries substantially. Events since the pandemic have spotlighted the need for civil society to have the tools and time to mobilize against state curbs on NGOs and media.
Our solution will feature an innovative "Bill Tracker" where users can keep tabs on proposed regulations and prepare or lobby accordingly. This could be scaled to other regions/globally. It can be of cross-sectoral benefit, as shown by our holding recent talks with OAS and WHO on offering related services.

Project trajectory over the past year
The project has advanced well and has benefited strongly from the SCUP support. The mentoring, in particular, has helped us set in train various important activities. These include partnering with other like-minded organizations and leveraging their networks to reach a broader audience, and taking the tool in “new directions”, such as by running a more targeted offshoot-initiative that is focused on Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, countries where civic space is especially constrained.Follow the project leader on social media:

CSOs are showing real interest in the alerts we're sending them, sharing them via their networks, planning how to push back against new proposed curbs.
