Beyond Stop-and-Go: How to restore global mobility

Thursday 11 november 2021 15:00 - 16:00
The Covid-19 pandemic and its resulting lockdowns created unprecedented restrictions on freedom of movement and – to a lesser degree – commercial exchanges. Countries closed their borders and imposed travel bans or entry requirements in an uncoordinated manner. These restrictions have impacted the movements of people, goods, tourists, professionals, families, and talents between and within countries. According to UNCTAD, the global economy could lose over USD 4 trillion due to the impact of Covid-19 on tourism alone. This session will ask how countries can better coordinate and which institutions and actors can offer rules and mechanisms to improve mobility in times of Covid.
