Digital rights on the global South-North divide

Thursday 11 november 2021 14:45 - 15:45
Algorithmic decision-making holds the potential to radically transform the world. It can help make societies fairer and more equitable, promoting efficiency and economic growth. At the same time, AI tools have been criticized for their potential to reinforce exploitative economic structures and social biases, particularly along the Global South-North divide and in the context of international development. Drawing upon Initiate: Digital Rights in Society's half-year global working group process, this session will examine the algorithmic governance policy challenges and opportunities for communities across the Global South, launching the next phase of Initiate's work toward a global digital rights framework.
