Protecting Mother Earth: Climate action by and for Women

Protecting the planet and the people

While the climate crisis is a threat for everyone, it does not affect us all equally. Mainly because they represent 70% of the 1.3 billion people living in multidimensional poverty (UNPD, 2021) and are more dependent on threatened natural resources, women are more vulnerable to climate change. Paradoxically, they are also often left out of the conversation when it comes to climate negotiations. This session will highlight the crucial role of women to scale up climate efforts and meet the SDG13 calling “to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts”. It will also explore how to mitigate the impact of climate change on women’s lives worldwide and how to ensure their voices are better included in climate governance and leadership at the local, national, multilateral levels as well as in the private sector.
