Biography

Nisreen Elsaim is an environmental and climate activist since 2012, with a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master's degree in renewable energy from the University of Khartoum, Sudan.She’s the general coordinator for "Youth and Environment Society (YES)" platform to give all youth working in the environmental sector the networking they need, and former chair of a large youth-led organization- "Sudan Youth Organization on Climate Change (SYOCC)".As part of many regional and international platforms, Nisreen led and mentored a large number of young people with n YOUNGO, PACJA, Abu Dhabi Youth Voices, and others.Nisreen is also a junior negotiator with the African Group of Negotiators in technology transfer, focused on countries’ policies regarding climate change and renewable energies. She wrote several policy papers on climate change, renewable energy, gender, and youth empowerment. In 2020, Nisreen was chosen to chair the UN Secretary-General's Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change alongside 6 other young climate activists. She was also one of the first Cohort of Marianne initiative for human rights defenders- an initiative by the French president. Currently, Nisreen is a Richard von Weizsacker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin.
